Tyler Ostholthoff, co-founder & Chief Training officer

Tyler was a Ground Intelligence Officer and Scout Sniper Platoon Commander in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2012 to 2016. He deployed twice to PACOM. After leaving the Marines, Tyler moved to Boston, MA to be with his wife and son. Tyler was a full time student at Northeastern University between 2016 and 2018, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in Homeland Security with a custom concentration in Domestic Intelligence Operations.

In 2018, Tyler completed the MBTA Transit Police Academy and served the Transit Police Department (TPD) as a patrolman for two years. He was one of the department’s first patrol rifle-certified officers. In 2020, Tyler left TPD and joined the Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD), where he served as a Field Training Officer, Juvenile Officer, and Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) Firearms Instructor. In 2021, Tyler left the NUPD to complete the Boston Police Academy. He serves currently at the Boston Police Department in an Anti-Crime Unit.

Tyler competes in USPSA (Carry Optics) and is constantly seeking training outside of his agency. Tyler believes in crediting those in the industry who have positively affected his training and teaching philosophy. Tyler has particularly valued his time learning from Colin Murphy, Andy Roy, Andy Delorey, and John Carlson at the SIG Sauer Academy; Scott Jedlinski and Russ Lyons of Modern Samurai Project; Raul Martinez of Rogue Methods; Craig Douglas and Brian Frias of ShivWorks; Paul Costa of Achilles Heel Tactical; Ian Strimbeck of Runenation; Nick Young of Velox Training Group; Sam Callahan of Callahan Training Group; and Angel Sanchez of Paradigm Performance Group.

Whether an LEO or lawfully-armed American citizen, Tyler believes training should be about improving performance by focusing on the process, not the outcome. Tyler is relentless about getting students to understand how to train because then, the student controls how they improve, not us.
